Verruca

A verruca is a wart on the foot caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) that your body does not know is there.

They can be very stubborn to treat and should only be treated if they cause pain or are spreading. They are difficult to treat, persistent, and unsightly. Some can persevere for years, growing deeper and impacting more and more on daily activities.

Around 10% of the population have a verruca. Most people have tried some form of treatment… but it hasn’t worked.

They commonly occur on the soles of the feet and toes. Verruca can be contagious and transmitted through direct person-to-person contact. They are common in children, teenagers, young adults and people who use communal changing rooms and swimming pool areas.

Treatments

Swift Microwave Therapy

Swift Microwave Therapy is statistically the most successful treatment we offer; thus, it is the costliest and can be painful. However, the success rate is approximately 85%, no dressings are required and on average the lesions resolve after 3 treatments. The treatment involves a probe which emits microwaves being applied to the lesion for a few seconds at a time. The aim is to distort the anatomy of the verruca and help the body produce an immune response to destroy the virus.

Salicylic Acid

Salicylic acid, which is applied and kept dry for 3 days every month. This treatment can take a number of months to help clear or improve the lesions and has approximately a 60-70% success rate. It is generally painless and required the hard skin to be removed before each application.

Verruca Needling

Verruca Needling is a minor surgical procedure which involves the use of a fine needle to puncture the verruca lesion and dermo epiderdermal junction multiple times under a local anaesthetic. The aim is to implant infected cells into the dermis layer, therefore stimulating an immune response and destruction of the virus.

Very friendly staff. I recently had 2 treatments of the amazing Swift technology to remove a cluster of very stubborn verrucas. Other conventional treatments hadn’t worked, so the podiatrist recommended this treatment. I was so pleased that after 2 treatments they had all gone. The treatment is a little bit uncomfortable but it’s over so quickly and the results far out way the discomfort!
